ENVIROMENTAL POLICY

TROPICAL INNS Puerto Rico has a serious commitment with the protection of the environment. We are, fortunately, located in one of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean. Puerto Rico, with extraordinary natural resources throughout the entire territory which we intend to protect for the enjoyment of future generations.

To contribute to the protection of the air, the soil and the natural ecosystems of the Island and of the Planet, we have established the following environmental conservation practices in TROPICAL INNS Puerto Rico / Parador Palmas de Lucía.

• Our facilities have been built with the Concretek System, system classified as Green Construction for high energy efficiency.
• We use fluorescent light bulbs with dark sensor system in exterior, fluorescent light bulbs and low energy consuming equipments in all rooms.
• We obtain hot water from the following alternative energy source: Vacuum Tube Solar Water - Heaters.
• We conserve potable water using water saving valves in all sinks and showers.
• We reduce to a minimum the production of solid waste and recycle aluminum, paper, plastics, glasses and kitchen organics.
• All our organic materials are carried to our compost system and later on are used as a fertilizer.
• We use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
• We use regional vegetation and walls, doors and windows treatment, and paints free of volatile organic compounds.
• We promote to reuse linen, towels and cups in the bedroom.
• We promote the individual recycle having recycle receptacle in each bedroom.
• We treat the swimming pool water with ozone system and salt chlorination system.
• We control the room temperature using the Green Suite thermostat system.
• We train our employees in good environmental practices for their assigned duties.
• We offer information to our guests about the natural resources nearby and promote codes of conduct during their visits to those places.
• We participate actively with the community in the maintenance of the natural areas, as our Lucía Beach, and the protection of native species as turtles, and their nesting sites.
• We support and sponsor environmental education and tourism culture efforts in the schools in our Municipality of Yabucoa.
• We support and sponsor environmental protection and pollution prevention activities in our region and are committed to continuously strive to reduce the ecological footprint of our operation.
